April 2021 Recap: Still Chugging Along
For April, I wanted to:
Complete the third camisa.
Make a second saya.
In order to have a project going while I prep for the move, I actually bought fabric for and began the second saya in March. This allowed me to pack up my sewing machine earlier than expected, and still leave me with projects to do while we prepared to move in early May. Mundane life is killing me. Moving is exhausting and I'm ready for it to be done. I'm really looking forward to sewing space and my upcoming SCA closet, but combining travel with moving, it's a bit much.
I will NOT get the gray saya done this month, but I've been moving slower on it than I normally would and trying to make sure that every decision I made on it this month was grounded in critical thinking and conscious choices. It did lead to a lot of overthinking but I think the end result will be much better for my overthinking. I did spend a lot of time studying rolled pleats, so that was kind of fun. And I accidentally kept packing the things I needed to get to the next step of the project so.... Go me. I've left it with an assembled/final fitted bodice interlining and both layers of the skirt assembled. The first thing when we're in the new place is to trace the final fit of the bodice for the lining and fashion fabric, then we can get to pleating.
The third camisa got done and dusted pretty early on in the month. It's not much to write home about, but I'm really starting to feel like I have a true kit/closet instead of just hoping I have an outfit ready for each event. It's a work in progress, but it's an exciting feeling. It's also sort of lit a fire under my butt to start thinking about turning my general outline of "who is Marion Compton?" (or whether or not I'm sticking with that name) into a true persona and backstory.
And last but not least, I finished the first stocking early. It's being thoroughly QC'd before I can move on.
