February 2021 Recap: Heck Your Cutlery Metaphor
My February goals were:
Finish Salome's cofia if I haven't already.
Make a second camisa.
Re-do the calzones.
February was a challenging month for me. Work got really complicated and stressful with my travel schedule, and some family concerns really sapped my energy in a way I wasn't really expecting. I struggled to keep up my motivation to accomplish things, and I'm not thrilled about that, but kicking myself now won't solve it. What that has meant is that I am VERY behind where I wanted to be this month. I have not accomplished any of the things I originally wanted to do this month. Which stinks. That's a kind of crappy feeling. It also means that I have actually zero idea where my big 2021 plans are going to take me and actually end up. The major conclusion I have to that end is that if I want to get the stuff I set out to done this year, the sewing machine is going to have to be involved. I generally try to avoid that with garb, but it's not about my pride, it's about my efficacy.
I did work on the calzones. I did a bunch of draping and gores and so on until I'd done about 5 drafts of them. By the end of it, I had constructed something that works, and makes me think I'm getting even closer to the correct fit I want, but they're not actually correct, nor is this pair usable. Much like the first camisa, I over corrected. BUT, also like the first camisa, I've learned an awful lot and am very confident that when I get to my third draft of these, I'll have what I'm actually looking for.
Additionally, I've made some good progress on my stockings. It's really nice to have that as a project to pick up and put down when I need to. It's been my go to traveling project, and I've done a LOT of traveling this month.
University happened and I did my King's Challenge class finally! That was a struggle. I have decided that a) cooking demos really need to be an in person thing for me and b) I should stick to single hour long classes for now. The class itself went well, and I hit all my cook time milestones on the nose, but I really missed getting the feedback I like about how my students are feeling. And not getting to feed people stinks- I am very over that part of COVID.
Some non-goal related news is that my heraldry passed at kingdom level! That's super exciting! I'm going to wait until I hear from Society level though to start looking into a badge but I'm really thrilled with how that's going.
For next month, I am taking a step back and have re-evaluated my goals for the year and will be starting with the next camisa for March. I'll still walk away where I needed to, but I'll just have to be a bit more judicious with how I use my time.
